1. contrive v. 謀劃;圖謀;設(shè)法想到

　　contrive to do sth. 設(shè)法做某事;(不顧困難地)促成某事

　　manage to do sth 也表示設(shè)法做某事，說的時候已經(jīng)成功做到，而contrive to do sth 通常說的時候還沒有實行。

　　It was said that Osama bin Laden contrived to attack four cities of America before he died.

　　2. converge v. 會合;聚集 (meet at a common point)

　　converge on 集中于

　　The two rivers converge here.

　　兩條河流在此相交。

　　3. cordial a. 熱情的

　　cordial的近義詞還有passionate，hospitable，enthusiastic等。

　　The president received a cordial welcome on his visit in Canda.

　　總統(tǒng)在加拿大訪問期間受到了熱烈的歡迎。

　　4. corrupt a./v. 腐敗的;腐蝕;墮落

　　The corrupt officials will be punished one day!

　　同義詞有restrain、restrict等。

　　curb還可以表示路邊。

　　curb也可作名詞，如curb on sth 起控制(或限制)作用的事物 curbs on price of commodities 抑制物價的措施

　　I have to curb my appetite to keep diet.

　　我得抑制食欲保持身材。

　　9. cynical a. 憤世嫉俗的;悲觀的

　　cynic n. 憤世嫉俗者;悲觀者，懷疑者

　　She is more cynical about life for the influence of this novel.

　　因為這部小說，她變得更加憤世嫉俗了。

　　10. dazzle v. 眩目;(美貌、技能、知識等)使贊嘆不已

　　The sunlight dazzles me.

　　陽光很刺眼。
